A Quick History of Ashford

Originally purchased from Native Americans, the early settlement of Ashford was located on the main road between Hartford and Boston, optimizing quick development. After the War of 1812, several carding, woolen and tin factories were established.

Historic Districts and Landmarks

Knowlton Memorial Hall, built in 1923, is a central gathering place for Ashford residents. It has hosted town meetings, small conferences, arts and crafts markets, local elections and a variety of community events. The Babcock Library is located in this building, as well.

Iron Mine Valley Preserve features enchanting swamps and marshes, as well as trails that wind their way through the area. Nearby Natchaug State Forest is a popular destination for camping, horseback riding, hunting, mountain biking, fishing, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling.
